[Note: This Profit Plan v2007.2552 Update can only be used to update an installed earlier build of Profit Plan v2007]
Profit Plan enjoys a policy of continuous review and enhancement. Every new user receives the lastest released edition at the time of purchase. From time to time during the edition year, we also produce downloadable updates for our registered Annual Technical Support users, to bring them current with the lastest releases of the year. To get your own free update release for Profit Plan v2007, be sure to subscribe to our Annual Technical Support and we will automatically send you update instructions! (If you are one of our Annual Technical Support clients and we somehow missed you in our update release announcement or if you have simply misplaced your update password, simply drop us an email to request Profit Plan v2007.2552 update instructions.)
Here are the items updated or added since the intial Profit Plan v2007 release last year, in no particular order.
(1) Mouse Scroll Wheel Help
Not all PC mouse drivers treat the Scroll Wheel the same. As a result, some of you have been unable to scroll Profit Plan reports with your particular scroll wheel. But now Profit Plan augments weak mouse drivers by watching the scroll wheel itself and steps in if your driver isn't doing the job.
Note: Due to the inconsistent techniques still found currently between the various mouse manufacturers, there is a small possibility that wheel scrolling with this new technique may be slow, or that scrolling may continue further than expected. If so, from within Profit Plan, select Options / System Defaults from the main menu. Click that form's Mouse Wheel tab. We have provided three different approaches to implementing the mouse scroll wheel for you. Experiment to find the most suitable approach if you wish.
(2) Assumptions Designer (cosmetics)
Dynamic Button Captions – We have updated the button label processing on this form so that the button captions automatically adjust if you narrow this form to provide more viewing area for the Assumptions sheet. Purely cosmetics, but just a bit nicer.
Account List Tooltips – The Designer provides a small tool tip window to display long account names when you select them in the Accounts to Receive or Accounts to Use lists. These used to be displayed in highlight font, which proved a bit difficult to read with some screen display setups in Windows XP. The extended tips now simply extend the account names in the same font as in the list itself.
(3) Worksheet Tab Drag/Drop Imports
Drag 'n Drop
Excel (.xls) – Drag any old Excel workbook into the
Worksheet tab to load it directly into Profit Plan. Once dropped
there, any data in the Excel workbook can be referenced from anywhere
else within Profit Plan. (This same technique can now be used to
create custom reports by dropping your own model's standard reports
there for editing.)
Drag 'n Drop Import for Delimited Files
(.csv, .prn, .txt) – Drop any comma, tab, or space
delimited file onto a Worksheet to easily import it for review
and/or reference elsewhere in Profit Plan. (If the imported file info
was not what you expected, simply delete the sheet and the rest of
the workbook will remain unaffected.)
Worksheet Links –
Older editions occasionally generated #Ref! messages when first
reloading a model that contained links from your special custom
Worksheet data to the Assumptions tab. This linkage
annoyance has been removed, so feel free to add your own personnel
payrolls, special vendor schedules, custom purchasing rules or
whatever into your Worksheet tab. Then pull the relevant data (like
payroll totals) into the Assumption sheet by setting up simple link
formulas.
(4) QuickBooks Financial Statements Import
In the past, "Memo" fields that contained embedded Quote marks required editing while importing financial statement data from QuickBooks. This is now handled silently by Profit Plan itself for your convenience.
(5) Extending Loan Schedules
By default, Profit Plan terminates long loan schedules one year after the end of the Annual forecast horizon. For the sake of simplicity, we have altered the way a user now specifies longer schedules lengths via the System Defaults tab.
With this change, those of you who have been extending your loan schedules in the past may now find your schedules longer than necessary. These can be easily shortened again via the Options / System Defaults menu option if you wish.
For all of you, this extension of loan schedules option is strictly for personal uses, since Profit Plan models will only directly utilize loan schedule data for up to one year past the model's Annual forecast horizon.
(6) Clear Historical Actuals form
Your older models may still have extraneous historical data in the Income Statement Variance and/or Balance Sheet Variance reports it they haven't already been updated via Profit Plan v2006 or Profit Plan v2007. The Clear Historical Actuals form will delete this obsolete data easily. A new help page and Help button has been added for your information and use.
(7) Variance Report "Actuals" computations
In prior releases, only standard summation formulae were automatically incorporated into the "Actual" history columns of the Income Statement and Balance Sheet Variance reports. With this update, most non-standard (user-defined) computations are also translated into equivalent computational formulae within the "Actual" column of the relevant variance report. A few calculations may still not be easily translated from the Assumptions sheet into the variance report for you. But common "non-financial" calculations such as "days of payables" ratios, Sales per employee, Average Cost per Unit and other such "user-defined" results should now be automatically recreated in the relevant variance report for your convenience.
(8) Frozen Areas
Setting frozen areas in Profit Plan now mimics Excel and has been clarified in the Help documentation. Essentially, Profit Plan now freezes the rows above and the columns to the left of the mouse cursor position when Options / Freeze Titles is turned on. Prior releases also "froze" the row and column containing the mouse cursor itself.
Existing models will continue to scroll as before. However, if you unfreeze a report's titles and then refreeze them, you will need to reestablish the frozen area using this newer convention. Simply place your cursor as described before you refreeze, and click OK to adopt the new setting.
(9) Amortization / Depreciation Tab
Selection list updates –
In prior releases, the drop-down selection lists containing the asset and expense accounts available were only updated when
first accessing this main window. Now the lists are also
dynamically updated when switching between the Amortization and the
Depreciation sheets via their sheet tabs. No more need to switch to another main
tab before these listed are updated.
Reducing a bit of “noise”
– In prior
releases, when an asset or expense account that had been used within the Amortization or
Depreciation schedule was deleted from the Chart of Accounts, the
user might receive several messages about that fact while fixing
up any errors that such a removal may have created. Now these “nag” messages should
only appear once while you are resetting the accounts to be utilized in the affected asset schedule.
(10) Graphical Analyzer enhancements
Use of Second Y-Axis –
When charting multiple lines of selected data, the format of the incoming data is examined. Incoming data values that are formatted as a percentage are now automatically plotted against the second (right-hand) vertical axis, while the non-percentage data continues to be plotted against the left (first) Y-Axis. This provides the ability to scale the two different types of numbers independently on the resulting chart.
Titles
– In prior
releases, custom (user entered) chart titles were replaced with standard titles if the date range was altered or the chart otherwise automatically refreshed. Now these titles are retained until the chart is closed. In addition, the user defined Project ID and Description fields are now automatcially used to title BizPlan 'Financial Projects' charts.
Enjoy your update!
